The Age of Entheogens, the Pharmacratic Inquisition & the Entheogenic Reformation is a radical re-examination of the history of our western civilization, exploring the brutal suppression of ecstatic, experiential, natural religions from The Age of Entheogens, by the 1600-year-old Pharmacratic Inquisition, leading up to the contemporary Entheogenic Reformation, or replacement with genuine entheogens of the placebo sacraments at the hollow center of today’s purely symbolic and artificial religions. Ott presents this iconoclastic view of religious history in a five-part essay of 26 pages, accompanied by 17 pages of 31 detailed endnotes and 6 pages of references. The second part of the book is entitled the Angels’ Dictionary: toward a Vocabulary for Sacred Inebriants, Ecstatic States and Kindred Topics. This is a lexicon of 318 words pertaining to shamanism, entheogens and to ecstasy, having 290 definitions backed by 445 citations from classic drug and general literature in 6 languages (with accompanying translations into English). Ott als includes 70 words from 29 non-European languages and 37 neologisms, half of which he himself coined. These two unique essays are completed and conjoined by a detailed collective index.
